A Room With a View to the Past

During an unforgettable trip to Israel, Benjy Gotlib had the amazing opportunity to visit the Babylonian Jewry Heritage Center. In this museum is a special room dedicated to Benjy’s great-uncle Shaul Shamash, the brother of Benjy’s grandmother Samra Gotlib. Samra is one of Orlando’s biggest Jewish philanthropists.

Donated by Benjy’s grandparents, Samra and Dr. Bernard Gotlib, the exhibit focuses on Jewish heritage in Iraq and features Iraqi artifacts, from silverware and bowls to clothing and jewelry. By exploring the exhibit, Benjy gained a deeper understanding of his own heritage and an even greater appreciation for his savta (grandmother) and her beloved brother.
