There’s a lot to complain about in the world these days. But if you’re used to a lifetime of optimism, being cheerful and kind becomes a way of life.

Such is the case with Gitty Adler, who almost never has anything negative to say. And on the rare occasion she does, it shocks everyone – including Gitty, herself. She considers herself to be blessed, with many reasons to be positive.

“I like where I live (Grand Living Park at Lake Mary) – all the Jewish people take care of one another,” says Gitty, who moved there in 2023. “And I particularly like all the things the Jewish Pavilion does for us here. I go to Shabbat services every week, and I really enjoy all the holiday events.”

Gitty emigrated from Ecuador to the United States in 1958. She had earned an architecture degree in Ecuador and met her husband in the U.S. when she took her first job as an architect. Bernard, a contract law attorney, worked in the same building. It was beshert. The couple lived in Oceanside, New York, for more than 40 years. In 2001, Bernard passed away.

“I came to Orlando because I have a daughter here,” says Gitty. “I joined Temple Israel and really liked the temple community. And I quickly became active in Hadassah and have been a life member for many, many years.”

Gitty has also been active with Jewish Pavilion Senior Services (JPSS), attending events and volunteering whenever she is able. When JPSS needed seniors for a photo shoot, Gitty was one of the first to show up.

And when it comes to talking about family, Gitty practically beams. She has a son, a daughter, and four grandchildren: a pediatrician, an audiologist, an equestrian competitor, and a computer technology specialist.

“I’m very proud of all of them,” she says, “and they come to visit me often.”

As for the future, one thing is certain: Gitty will be smiling and laughing with everyone around her. If the world’s troubles get you down and you need a dose of positivity, Gitty is your gal.
